Tata Vega made her professional musical debut in the New York cast of the musical 'Hair' in 1969.
Tata then joined the soul band Pollution, led by singer-songwriter Dobie Gray, before joining with the group Earthquire for their 1973 'Earthquire' album on Motown's Natural Resources imprint.
The group split and Tata was signed to Motown as a solo artist.
She enjoyed a soul hit in 1976 with 'Full Speed Ahead', before enjoying more substantial success in the UK with the soul dancer 'Get It Up For Love', and her interpretation of the Diana Ross And The Supremes hit, 'You Keep Me Hanging On'.
In 1979, 'I Just Keep Thinking About You Baby' brought her another chart entry, and she sang joint lead vocals on Stevie Wonder's 'A Seed's A Star', one of the contribuitions for his epic 'Journey Through The Secret Life Of Plants' project.
After a couple of years with Motown, she left the label in 1981.
Since then she has concentrated on recording gospel material, and working as a session vocalist.
She scored a US hit with Lou Rawls in 1985 with 'Learn To Love Again'.
She was also the featured vocalist on four songs on Quincy Jones's 1986 film soundtrack for 'The Color Purple'.
